The Strength of Duality
Chapter 188 Had You Died
After Yun Tian sat down, he let out a deep breath filled with all of his feelings of anxiety and exhaustion.
Immediately afterward, he collapsed onto his back as sweat slowly broke out all over him and utter exhaustion was seen on his face. He had been tense the entire day with his breakthrough and then the wolves getting injured. His heart had dropped to the very pit of his stomach as first he thought Bolin would die with no way of saving him. But, then he tried the healing pill and it worked. Somewhat.
One pill wasn’t enough but then he had a new hope and his entire mind and body fully focused on rushing to Zhenmen town as fast as possible, which also included doing his very best to improve the Wolf’s Lightning skill. His mind went into overdrive bringing up all his insights and integrating them into the skill.
Besides this, the entire time he had to worry whether the town was close enough or not as if it was farther than he thought, no matter what he did, he wouldn’t have been able to get there in time.
He was once again relieved upon making it to Zhenmen town with Bolin still breathing, but then he had to deal with getting the actual pills before finally actually healing the wolf. That wasn’t even the end though as there was still the trouble Bolin’s howl and his wealth might have attracted to him, which was the reason why he left so quickly. This all exhausted him mentally a great deal and left him with zero moments of rest in between.
It was only now, he had a moment of relaxation and his tense nerves relaxed. While it had only taken around fours of time in total, he felt he had gone several weeks with his emotions and brain going crazy the entire time.
It wasn’t only mental exhaustion though. His qi reserves in both his dantian and demonic core were also dangerously low.
Even though he hadn’t been through a battle, he had first broken through to the next stage of his cultivation and then rescued the wolves. After that, he took Bolin and ran with all his might toward Zhenmen town.
The entire time he was giving it all he had to move faster, whether it was using his demonic qi to enhance his body or crazily using his qi from his dantian to better display his movement technique.
At the same time, he was not used to both his new stage of cultivation or the newly improved movement technique, causing his qi to be used very inefficiently along with the natural waste and huge usage of qi that came along with using the Wolf’s Lightning skill even when he used it before improving it.
That wasn’t the only thing he was using his qi for while travelling too. As he held the dying wolf in his arms, in a desperate attempt to prolong Bolin’s life he was also crazily pouring his energies into the wolf to try and help stabilize his condition the entire time.
That still wasn’t all as he also had to help the wolf refine pill after pill within his body while also pouring even more qi into the wolf. Still, this should have been fine as he had mostly only used up the qi of his dantian prior to this with his demonic core still have a good amount, but when he poured his demonic qi into Bolin to help him repair his demonic core, the wolf took in a very large amount of his demonic qi.
In the end, it was to the point where the reserves in both his dantian and demonic core were down to a tenth of what they normally were. Leaving him basically only able to defend them with the pure strength of his body alone and a small amount of qi.
When he was reassuring Bolin, he had shown the wolf that he was extremely confident and told him to rest, but in reality if anyone had tried to attack them, the situation would have been extremely dangerous. He was in fact deeply worried the entire time that the people there would figure out his weakness, but he couldn’t show any of that on the surface and could only put on a brave front. This was also why he was so anxious to get out of town quickly and stealthily.
He continued lying there for a short while thinking over everything, ‘It’s a good thing we got out so quickly with no problems. Who knows what could have happened despite that old man seemingly wanting to befriend me, if he knew I was greatly weakened. He must have been able to feel my strength which is the reason why he wanted to befriend me.’
He continued thinking as he turned his head to see the sleeping Bolin beside him. ‘He wanted to befriend me because I showed great strength and talent just the same as he would have gone after me had I shown great wealth, but was instead weak. In the end, the only ones I can truly trust seem to be Shen Yu and you wolves huh?’
As he looked at the sleeping wolf he felt grateful that he had some people he could truly rely on and that he knew cared about him in this world where everything is about benefits and strength.
He looked at Bolin while thinking, ‘if you had died…’
A tear fell down the side of his face as he turned to the sky and thought, ‘Luckily the world was gracious enough- No!’
He shot back up to a sitting position as his gaze hardened, ‘No! No luck, grace, or fairness. It was only because of my own abilities that I was able to save you and keep us safe. Next time though I have to be more careful, I could have waited to give Bolin the top grade pills after his condition had stabilized. Still, I couldn’t have known that I would use up the rest of my qi. Some things I can't predict. I just have to be strong enough that I can face everything regardless.’
