The Strength of Duality
Chapter 208 Demonic Beasts Are Merely Beasts?
Yao Fei gracefully twisted and dodged to the side. At the same time a red mist-like substance that seemed to be made of qi floated out of her.
Yun Tian couldn’t tell what was happening at first but as he saw the boar charging through her previous location and only stopping a few seconds later, he was pretty sure he knew what was happening.
‘It seems to disorient the enemy's senses somehow. Can she do this on her own though or is it something to do with the whip? It’s likely something to do with the whip and the boar’s blood it drained as I didn’t feel any effects in the slightest.’
The boar realized it missed and felt the familiar sensation of the whip along its side.
It was confused but its instincts didn’t let it lose focus as it turned and found her figure once more. Then the same scene played out once more.
The red mist continued to spread out around her in this small area of the trees and she intermittently used the abilities of her shoes to dodge while attacking the boar.
Seeing everything, the tiger seemed to be filled with joy and Shen Yu with several mixed feelings of inferiority and sadness.
On the other hand, Yun Tian was not so pleased with her fight.
‘She could eventually win this way, but that is only if she is able to outlast her opponent. The boar has a lot of blood and would take a long time to be completely drained at the rate she is going. Not to mention the fact that it has large reserves of demonic qi to heal itself, including its previous wounds that only bled for a short amount of time.’
‘As for Yao Fei’s stamina, I can feel something entering her from the whip. It seems to replenish her physical energies somewhat, but her qi is another story. That is the thing that is truly being drained. She has to constantly supply qi to the whip, her boots, and constantly maintain her movement skill. Even with her talent is this all she can do against a demonic beast of the same layer?’
The fight continued on and eventually Yun Tian felt that Yao Fei would win.
‘Even if she could win, this is only because I gave her such an easy target and no other beasts came to interfere. Even if there were only a few strong wild beasts around, I don’t know if she could handle both at the same time. If there was another demonic beast, her chances to win should be zero and it would be hard to even keep her life if this is all she has.’
He ended his thoughts though with, ‘Above all though, Demonic Beasts aren’t dumb.’
By now a large amount of the boar’s blood had been drained and it hadn’t been able to touch a single hair on Yao Fei. Like Yun Tian thought, it could, at the very least, understand that it couldn’t let things go on like this. Despite how reluctant it was, it decided to run.
It missed its charge once again and Yao Fei’s whip hit it once again, but this time it didn’t change direction even though it already ran through Yao Fei’s previous location.
Seeing this Yao Fei was slightly stunned for a moment and actually stood there blankly for a moment. She just watched on as the boar ran away.
Yun Tian sighed and even Shen Yu gave her weird looks for a moment.
Yun Tian decided to step in and flashed from where he was to in front of the boar with the Fleeting Steps skill. He kicked the boar but controlled his strength so he didn’t injure it. It flew back to near Yao Fei. At the same time he appeared next to Yao Fei for a moment and said, “This is the only time I will help. Don’t let it run. If it does, chase.”
Yao Fei blushed embarrassedly for a moment but quickly regained herself and looked at the boar again right after.
It had stood back up and was looking around in confusion. It had no idea what just happened.
Seeing no new enemies it quickly refocused on Yao Fei before deciding to try and run away once more. It didn’t work the last time, but it saw no other opportunities for survival.
Realizing what she had to do though Yao Fei wouldn’t let this happen once more.
She decisively lashed out with her whip before it could run, but instead of slashing, the end of the whip pierced straight into the boar’s side.
Instantly a much larger amount of blood gushed out of the boar, but it wouldn’t just sit there as it immediately ran away. The whip quickly became taught, but Yao Fei didn’t even have to try and hold on as a section at the end of the whip seemed to break off.
Yun Tian was stunned and thought, ‘How could such a high grade weapon break so easily!?’
But as he saw the calmness on Yao Fei’s face as she chased after the boar, he immediately realized, ‘Unless it was on purpose!’
He looked to the boar and the now completely red whip that was stuck in its back slowly straightened out and the broken end slowly grew outward and twisted.
‘It looks… like a flower?’
Yao Fei kept close to the boar but wasn’t in a hurry to attack. Her movement technique did grant her a good speed but that alone wasn’t enough to keep up with the boar. She also constantly supplied qi to her shoes and they increased her movement speed even further.
The boar ran wildly through the forest causing a big commotion as it poured all it could into going as fast as it could.
Together it was an odd scene of a wild boar being chased by a gracefully dancing fairy-like woman who seemed to show no signs of wanting to attack.
They quickly moved through the forest and it wasn't long before the boar also noticed what the thing on its back was doing.
It had been distracted by its thoughts of escaping, but being able to escape without that weird thing happening again it finally could pay attention to other things. And, with a demonic beast’s excellent sense for their own body it obviously noticed the foreign “flower” taking root on it and draining even more of its blood.
